The Problem of Sagging in the Abdominal Area:
Tummy Tuck Surgery or Tightening with Renuvion (J-Plasma)?

When it comes to abdominal aesthetics, one of the most common questions my patients ask me is: “Sir, I want my stomach to be flat, but I don’t want a large surgical scar. I wonder if Renuvion technology will be enough for me, or should I definitely have tummy tuck surgery?”

The answer to this question is not a single “yes” or “no”; It depends entirely on your tissue quality, excess skin and the condition of your abdominal muscles.

Our aim in plastic surgery is always  to get the most effective result with the least scar. However, when the right technique is applied to the wrong patient, the result can be disappointing. In this article,  I will explain in detail which patient is the ideal candidate for Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) and which patient  is the ideal candidate for Renuvion (J-Plasma) technology.

Who Is Renuvion (J-Plasma) Suitable For?

Renuvion (also known as J-Plasma) is a revolutionary technology that tightens the skin by delivering heat energy under the skin without making a surgical incision. I usually use it in combination with Vaser Liposuction.

However, Renuvion is not a “miracle iron”; It cannot recover every sagging. Ideal candidates for Renuvion include:

  • Those with Mild to Moderate Skin Laxity: If you do not have an excess skin folding (a sagging structure like an apron) on your abdomen, only if your skin has lost its elasticity and looks “loose”.
  • Those Without Muscle Separation (Diastasis Recti): Patients who have not given birth or who do not have a serious separation of the abdominal muscles even if they have given birth. Because Renuvion only acts on the skin, it does not repair the underlying muscle.
  • Those with Partially Good Skin Quality: People whose skin cracks are not very deep and the skin still has the capacity to recover.
  • Patients Who Do Not Want Scars: People who want to avoid the long incision scar of tummy tuck surgery and have limited excess skin.

In summary: If there is enough looseness in your skin to recover the gap that may occur after liposuction, Renuvion gives great results.

Who is Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) Suitable for?

Tummy tuck surgery is the method that we call “Gold Standard”, which offers the most effective and definitive solution. In some cases, technology (Renuvion, etc.) is not enough and that skin must be mechanically discarded.

Tummy tuck surgery is the only remedy for patients who:

  • Those with Severe Excess Skin and Sagging: Especially if a “skin apron” has formed in the lower abdomen due to multiple pregnancies or excessive weight loss (after sleeve gastrectomy, etc.), this skin must be cut and discarded.
  • Those with Separation of the Abdominal Muscles (Diastasis Recti): During pregnancy, the abdominal muscles open to the sides and the abdomen bulges outwards. Renuvion cannot fix this situation. During tummy tuck, we slim the waist and flatten the abdomen by sewing these muscles together with the method we call “Inner Corset”.
  • Patients with Deformed Belly Buttons: If sagging skin has distorted the location or shape of the belly button, the belly button is reshaped with a tummy tuck.
  • Those with Multiple Stretch Marks: The  heavily cracked skin under the belly button is completely removed from the body with tummy tuck surgery.

Comparison Table: Which Method is for You?

Feature Renuvion (J-Plasma) + Liposuction Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
Transaction Type Minimally Invasive (Closed Method) Surgery (Open Method)
Scar Millimeter entrance holes (Invisible) Long horizontal line remaining in underwear
Muscle Repair Cannot be done Yes, abdominal muscles are sutured (Inner Corset)
Recovery Time 3-5 Days 2-3 Weeks
Excess Skin Tightens (does not cut) It is cut and thrown away
Anesthesia General Anesthesia General Anesthesia
  Smoking and Surgery

Conclusion: We Make the Decision in the Consultation

The before-and-after photos you see on social media can sometimes be misleading. The healthiest way to understand whether your body will achieve the shape you dream of with Renuvion or Tummy Tuck is a physical examination.

Sometimes  we can also apply hybrid (mixed) methods such as “Mini Tummy Tuck + Renuvion”. Thus, we both reduce the size of the scar and tighten the skin.

When you hold your stomach in front of the mirror, you may be closer to a tummy tuck if you have a serious excess skin, and if you only feel looseness, you may be closer to the Renuvion procedure.

We are waiting for you at our clinic to determine the most suitable method for your body.
